Yvette Gonzales, Vice President of Information Services of Shelter Insurance shared a few tips she has learned on her journey to success. Gonzales has over 27 years of experience within IT. She earned a Bachelors of Science in Computer Science from

the University of Missouri. She has been designated as a Fellow through the Life Management Institute. Most recently, Gonzales received an Award for Women in Insurance Leadership.

Gonzales shared her personal life experiences through her story "From Ukes to Blue Snarfs". As a young woman, Gonzales first experienced hard work by driving a Uke (heavy duty equipment dirt mover). That's the job that motivated her to obtain a college degree. Through each of her positions she has learned valuable lessons. Gonzales worked for H&R Block, Century Investments and Shelter Insurance. She emphasized the need for vision, self-branding, building on strengths and forgetting your weaknesses.

Several books were recommended such as Tom Rath's "StrengthsFinder 2.0", "Little Bets" by Peter Sims, and "Tough Choices" by Carly Fiorina. Gonzales noted how much she has learned from Rayona Sharpnack of the Institute for Women's Leadership. Gonzales has been blessed with wonderful mentors and terrific opportunities.
