Are You Prepared To Use a Gun?

At the November monthly meeting, Jeff Westbrook, Safety Director of Columbia Insurance Group spoke to the membership about being safe.  He said that the best thing you can do is to be aware, be observant, and “listen to your gut.”  He shared many interesting tips.

One of the most interesting tips regarded handguns.  Jeff stated you need to ask yourself if you are prepared to use a gun.  It’s wise to learn how to handle a gun by taking gun safety classes, and practice using your gun as well.  Jeff suggested that if you are not prepared to use a gun, it’s better to get a can of Mace or pepper spray.

Jeff spoke about violence in the workplace.  Workplace violence can have various sources.  The source may be a disgruntled customer, a current or former employee or someone in a relationship with an employee.  By far, though, we are more likely to experience violence from someone we know, than from a stranger.

Jeff left us with several thoughts.  Do your research and “listen to your gut.”  Go online and investigate people.  Utilize sites such as  www.courts.mo.gov/casenet.  Jeff concluded his presentation by making a Home Security Checklist available to the membership.
